Meet the Spring 2015 LLM Board



– President –

Carlos Espaillat is a lawyer from Dominican Republic and current LL.M. candidate at Washington College of Law. He went to law school at the Universidad Iberoamericana "UNIBE" in the Dominican Republic where he also received a diploma in Energy Law. Prior to coming to Washington, D.C. to pursue his master degree he worked in a private law firm where he had the chance to gain experience in the energy sector. He is currently specializing in International Business Law.


– Vice President –

Nahila Cortes is an Argentinean lawyer and current LL.M candidate at Washington College of Law. She received her law degree from from Universidad Austral in Buenos Aires, Argentina and has a postgraduate degree in Management and Control of Public Policies. Nahila has worked in private law firms in International Arbitration, Corporate and Administrative Law, and in the public sector. She is currently specializing in International Commercial Arbitration and International Business Law.

Emelie is a Canadian lawyer from Vancouver, British Columbia. She has a J.D. from the University of Ottawa, which she obtained in 2013. Emelie articled at a national law firm for one year and gained experience in the areas of commercial litigation, intellectual property and business law. She is currently an LL.M. candidate in the International Legal Studies Program. She is specializing in International Human Rights Law and has a particular interest in gender issues. In her free time, Emelie enjoys playing soccer, practicing yoga and exploring D.C.


– External Affairs –

Rodrigo Soria del Villar is a lawyer from Bolivia. He is an LLM student specializing in Human Rights and Gender and the Law. He shares the partnership of a Law Firm at his home country. Rodrigo also worked at the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights in Washington DC and at the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) in San José, Costa Rica.

– Public Relations –

Ahmadou Kane has graduated from The Cergy-Pontoise University in France in 2012 while he was employed by the university as a tutor in law. He decided to go back to Senegal in order to serve his country in the legal field. From internships in banks, he has definitely developed his taste for international business law. However, he had the opportunity to teach undergraduate law students in a private university, so he decided to pursue this career for several months. Now, Ahmadou Kane is enrolled in an LLM program at American University Washington College of law, major Business law, which will help him to step into the professional world of international law.

Yu Sun is a Chinese lawyer and a current LL.M. candidate at Washington College of Law. She holds her law degree from South Central University for Nationalities in China. She is concentrating on Intellectual Property Law and International Business Law at Washington College of law.


– Event Organizer –

Vincent Lehmann is a French student from Parisand graduated from the Nanterre Paris Ouest La Défense University in 2014. He currently is an LL.M student at Washington College of Law specializing in Business Law while doing a Master in France on Banking and Financial Regulation. He also has an interest in Criminal law with Anti-corruption and White collar crime as his prime subjects. In his free time, Vincent is an outdoors person, a climber and is constantly trying out new activities. He is also an avid reader and movie goer.
