Meet the Spring 2016 LLM Board


– President –

Martijn Vermeersch is a Belgian lawyer and a current LL.M. candidate at the Washington College of Law. He went to law school at Ghent University (UGent) in Belgium, graduating magna cum laude in 2014. During his time as a student, Martijn  worked as a student-assistant at the university’s human rights law department and co-coached the moot court team for the 2014 Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition. He won the Inter-American Moot Court Scholarship for his performance in the 2013 competition.


– Vice President –

Natália Mazoni S. Martins - Brazil

Natalia Martins is a lawyer and legal consultant from Brazil and currently a Master of Laws candidate in International Legal Studies at American University Washington College of Law. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Faculdade de Direito Milton Campos, and is a specialist in Tax Law with a certificate from Gama Filho University, both in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. She has worked in both the public and private sectors, notably with tax and business planning, contracts and international research. She is also a content writer with a special interest in law and economics, development, and international relations. In her free time she enjoys reading, traveling and going to music concerts.

Cecilia Borelli is a 23 years old law student from Italy in a double degree program and current LL.M. candidate at Washington College of Law. She will receive her law degree at Libera Università Internazionale delle Scienze Sociali Guido Carli in Rome in July. She is currently specializing in International Organizations. In her free time, Cecilia enjoys travel.

Gilberto Erick is a lawyer from Mexico and current LL.M. Candidate at the American University: Washington College of Law in the International Legal Studies Program with Specialization in Business Law. In 2013, he obtained his law degree from Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores Monterrey. Gilberto Erick has 3 years work experience as a Contract, Divorce and Corporate Lawyer. He is fluent in English, Spanish and is intermediate in Portuguese. In his free time he enjoys travel and learning about new cultures.



– Events Manager –

Burak Han Cevik is a Dutch lawyer from the Hague University in the Hague (2014). Currently he is an LL.M candidate at the Washington College of Law. Burak has worked in governmental institutions in his home country, such as the Ministry of Justice, in particular the Immigration and Naturalization Department and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Washington, DC. Burak is specializing in International Human Rights and Immigration.
