Visiting Human Rights Faculty from Partner Universities in Colombia Participate in Intensive Summer Programming at WCL
The Center’s Human Rights Teaching and Research Partnership Program just wrapped up an exciting couple of months with students and professors from partner law schools Universidad Javeriana Cali and Universidad Santiago de Cali, both of Cali, Colombia. Teams from both schools participated in the annual Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition, with students from Santiago de Cali competing for the first time since 2003 and the Universidad Javeriana Cali team making it to the semi-finals. Valentina Varela, a student from Javeriana Cali was awarded honors for “Best Orator."
Professors from both universities remained in Washington through June to participate in the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law’s Program of Advanced Studies on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, as well as an intensive legal English course. The Center was excited to host the partners and share some DC summer activities with them, including a Washington Nationals baseball game—all this in addition to other faculty training workshops and activities that took place during the 2012-2013 academic year.
Stay tuned for more to come!
