WCL community to celebrate the life of transformational lawyer, Chief Justice Arthur Chaskason
American University Washington College of Law will be hosting Chief Justice Arthur Chaskalson: Celebrating the Life of a Transformational Lawyer and Judge on Monday, March 4.
Arthur Chaskalson, a great friend and colleague to many members of the WCL community, was one of South Africa’s leading jurists in the apartheid movement. With his deep interest in constitutional and human rights issue, he served as the first President of the Constitutional Court of South Africa and as Chief Justice of South Africa thereafter. Shortly after his term as Chief Justice, Justice Chaskalson came to Washington College of as a visiting professor, working with Professor Goldman to jointly teach a course on terrorism and human rights.
The event will take place from 9:00am – 2:00pm in Room 603 on Monday, March 4. It will begin with introductions from Dean Grossman, to be followed by reflections and comments from a range of legal scholars.
