Institute pariticipants from out of town have a number of housing options. A hotel guide with nearby accomodations can be found here.
We have also reserved a block of roomsat American University's Centennial Hall for Summer Institute participants. The residence halls feature 24-hour complex desk operations, air conditioning, wireless internet access, parking, twin size beds, and semi-private bathrooms.
Dormitory Rates for the Summer 2013
Single Occupancy Room - $75/night
Double Occupancy Room - $50/person/night
Front Desk: The main front desk for all of South Side (Anderson, Centennial, and Letts Halls) will be the Letts Front Desk. The Letts Front Desk will be open 24 hours a day should guests lose their keys or need assistance in an emergency. The Anderson Front Desk will be open for major check-ins.
Parking: All guests staying on campus are eligible for a parking permit. The cost of the permit is included in the cost of housing. The parking permit will be for the Nebraska parking lot, located on the corner of Nebraska Avenue and New Mexico Avenue. Participants not staying on campus are welcome to pay to park at the Nebraska lot (pay upon arrival). There is a shuttle that runs from main campus to the Nebraska lot to the metro station.
Kitchen: There is a community kitchen on each floor of the residence hall; however, there are no cooking supplies or dishes.
Phones: There are no phones for guests to use in the residence hall. They can purchase pay-as-you-go phones from area retailers.
Linens: All linens will be provided. This includes sheets for a twin-size bed, a blanket, and a towel. The linens can be changed once a week upon request from the program coordinator.
Other Amenities: The dorm rooms have air conditioning, wireless internet access, and semi-private bathrooms.
To get to American University from the airport, you can take a taxi or Super Shuttle shared van service, which is a cheaper alternative. When you arrive at the Airport follow the signs to ground transportation and look for the blue and yellow Super Shuttle reservations desk. Give them the address below.

Alternatively, if you take the DC Metro from the airport, you should go to the Tenleytown-AU metro stop. There is a free shuttle that runs from the Tenleytown-AU metro station to both American University and Washington College of Law.

How to Apply
To apply for on campus housing, please fill out this form.
After you complete and submit the application, you will receive a confirmation email. Participants must pay at or before check-in. Rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact the Summer Housing Office with any questions you have about your application or payment. The Housing Office recommends that you pay online via credit card prior to your arrival on campus. The deadline to apply for housing at American University is June 14, though space is limited.
Cancellations will receive a full refund if cancelled in writing to the Summer Housing Office 48 hours prior to check-in. No refund is available for cancellations within 48 hours of check-in. You will not be able to check-out during your stay, including weekends.
