Admission Requirements and Registration


ACADEMIC CREDIT Visiting Students and Practitioners Applying for Academic Credit

Applications must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office. Students who wish to accelerate graduation by enrolling for summer courses must consult and have permission from their home institutions. A letter of good standing and permission to enroll at the Washington College of Law must accompany your application. Visiting students can apply to use some credits toward a future LLM degree from the Washington College of Law. Please speak with the program director for further information on this option.

Students will be registered for the number of credits they intend to take as follows:

LAW 719J-001 The Law and Policy of Health Insurance Reform 1 credit
LAW 719B1-001 False Claims Act in the Health Care Industry 1 credit
LAW 719JJ-001 Pharmaceuticals and the Law 1 credit
LAW 719-008 Health Care Business Transactions 1 credit

Please note that no credits will be awarded until attendance is confirmed by the Program Director and the final grades are submitted.

Students taking the courses for academic credit may register for a maximum of two (2) academic credits per week.


CERTIFICATE/CLE
US Practitioners and Foreign Attorneys

All courses can be taken for professional development. Upon completion of the program, a Certificate of Attendance will be presented to the participants.

To apply, candidates must hold a law degree either from a U.S. law school accredited by the American Bar Association or from a foreign law school with equivalent standards; Candidates who do not hold a law degree but have certain work experiences may be eligible to apply. Please email the program director at scielzo@wcl.american.edu with your request to apply along with a current resume. US Practitioners can request CLE Credit. WCL is an accredited provider for Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York and will seek accreditation for all other states as requested.

WCL students taking these courses for academic credit should register through the usual course registration process as directed by the Registrar.

PROGRAM CHANGES AND WITHDRAWALS

Applicants who have registered or paid a deposit will be informed promptly of any changes in the Summer Session's course offerings and, in the unlikely event of a course cancellation, will receive a full refund for the course (excluding the application fee of $65, which is non-refundable). Requests for refunds should be directed to the following Offices:

Applicants who have registered or paid a deposit should notify us immediately in case of withdrawal. Students who have registered to receive academic credit must also contact the Office of the Registrar for information about withdrawal forms and deadlines. For Certificate of Attendance:
Refund is only available if you withdraw at least five business days before the start of classes. Cancellations after that time will not be refunded, however,seminar materials will be provided. Substitutions will be considered. Requests for refunds should be directed to:
