Amy Tenney is the Assistant Dean of Academic Services and Registrar and is a member of the adjunct faculty at American University Washington College of Law. Dean Tenney’s responsibilities include helping to set and refine the law school's curriculum, leading the Office of the Registrar, and working to provide students an unparalleled academic experience. She also teaches several classes, including White Collar Crime. In her daily work and in the courses she teaches, she focuses on enabling students to gain the skills they need to succeed in a changing and competitive legal market. She very much enjoys advising students and lawyers and helping them to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Dean Tenney’s academic work is focused on federal white collar crime and the implications of the breadth of federal criminal statutes on American society. She regularly provides media commentary on criminal law matters and has appeared on several national and international television shows.

Dean Tenney previously was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Jenner & Block LLP, where she was a member of the Government Contracts and White Collar Defense & Investigations practice groups. She also maintained an active criminal pro bono practice. Dean Tenney was the Recipient of the Albert E. Jenner Pro Bono Award for her work on behalf of death penalty inmate Kevin Wiggins in both the U.S. Supreme Court, in which the Court set new ground rules for effective legal representation in death penalty cases, and in his re-sentencing proceedings.

Before joining Jenner & Block, Dean Tenney clerked for Judge Leonie M. Brinkema of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and Judge Frank M. Coffin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She also previously served as Chief Aide to then-ACLU President Nadine Strossen and worked for U.S. Representative Carolyn B. Maloney. Her community involvement includes having served on the Board of Advisors for the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law & CSI and the Advisory Board of the Center for American Politics and Citizenship.

Dean Tenney received a Juris Doctor magna cum laude from New York Law School, where she was a Snow Scholar and the Supervising Editor of the New York Law School Law Review, and a Bachelor of Arts with High Honors in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland.
