Richard J. Marks has been a business lawyer with DLA Piper for more than 19 years, assisting companies, banks, SBICs and other institutional lenders and investors with leveraged and strategic acquisitions, dispositions and restructurings, private equity investments and secured and unsecured commercial finance transactions.
Mr. Marks has broad experience representing borrowers and lenders in senior, second lien and mezzanine corporate loans, syndicated and unitranche loan facilities, asset-based and cash flow lines of credit, structured finance and acquisition financings and works with lenders, private equity and mezzanine funds and institutional investors in the purchase, sale and financing of their portfolio companies. He serves as outside counsel for public and private companies in their strategic acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures and with general operational and corporate matters.
Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business has recognized Mr. Marks for his Corporate/M&A and Private Equity practice, calling him a true "stalwart" and an "outstanding lawyer." Mr. Marks was named among the Top Washington Lawyers of 2006 by the Washington Business Journal. He also was named to Washington SmartCEO's 2007 Legal Elite. In 2003, the National Law Journal honored him with its Pro Bono Award.
Mr. Marks serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the District of Columbia Bar Association. He is also an adjunct professor at the American University Washington College of Law.
