Daniel Cohen



Professor Cohen serves as primary legal counsel for DOE’s Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) and is regularly sought by the Office of the Secretary for legal advice on EERE matters. This work has included implementation of the energy efficiency and renewable energy programs funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009; establishment of the Sunshot Initiative; issuance of energy efficiency standards for residential appliances and commercial equipment and for residential and commercial building codes; drafting briefs in several appellate challenges to DOE regulations; and development and implementation of the Department’s goals under the President’s Climate Action Plan. He is a member of the Senior Executive Service, responsible for supervising an office of eighteen lawyers that provide legal support for all of the Department of Energy's renewable energy and energy efficiency programs and activities.
