Bio
Christine Speidel is an associate professor of law and director of AUWCL’s Janet R. Spragens Federal Tax Clinic. Since 2018 Professor Speidel has focused her clinical practice on providing low-income individuals with representation in tax disputes to promote economic and racial justice and improve the fairness and integrity of the federal tax system. Before becoming a clinical professor, Professor Speidel was a staff attorney in Vermont Legal Aid’s Poverty Law Project and Director of the Vermont Low-Income Taxpayer Project. Professor Speidel’s scholarship stems from her wide-ranging poverty law experience. Her scholarship sits at the intersection of administrative law, family law, domestic violence, health law, privacy, and consumer law. She is active in the American Bar Association Section of Taxation, where she is a Council Director and a past chair of the Pro Bono and Tax Clinics Committee. In 2022 Professor Speidel was named a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel.
Professor Speidel earned a B.A., cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Pomona College. She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School.
