American University Washington College of Law’s annual Africa Legal Conference (ALC) was founded in November 2015 by a group of four students. The ALC is the first of its kind in the DMV area. The conference attracts scholars, practitioners, and students from all over the world. The goal of the conference is to connect our legal community to Africa through the law. We accomplish this through education of African legal systems and processes, panel discussions on hot-button topics on the continent; and being a catalyst for innovation, socio-economic, and sustainable development. Additionally, ALC encourages scholarship on Africa by creating an opportunity to publish papers annually. Further, this event facilitates dialogue and partnership among those interested and working to promote African development. Lastly, ALC hopes to dispel misconceptions about Africa through education.
