Alvina Reckman-Myers First Year Moot Court Tournament
The Alvina Reckman-Myers First Year Moot Court Competition gives first year students the opportunity to test their appellate oral advocacy skills in a competitive environment while receiving substantive feedback from Moot Court Honor Society members. The Competition prepares first year students for the Moot Court Spring Qualifying Tournament and the Legal Rhetoric spring appellate argument. Two preliminary rounds will take place on January 14; thirty-two competitors will be invited back to compete in the elimination rounds on January 15; and four finalists will square off before a panel of practicing judges and/or WCL professors in the afternoon on January 15, in the Stephen S. Weinstein Ceremonial Moot Courtroom (TBA, given construction of the new Tenley Campus).
Recommendations for Preparation: Competitors are strongly encouraged and permitted to read all cases cited in the record. Competitors are prohibited from consulting any other materials, which include but are not limited to law reviews, briefings, white papers, and other court documents not referenced in the record. See the Competition Rules below for more information about how to prepare.
Demonstration Session: We will do a demonstration oral argument during a Moot/Mock/ADR Joint Information Session on November 16. The session will go over the three honor societies at WCL, including Moot Court, Mock Trial, and ADR. Each will provide a demonstration and there will be time to ask questions. Pizza will be provided. The session will take place in the Ceremonial Weinstein Courtroom at 12pm and 8pm.
