Spring & Fall Qualifying Tournaments

2020 SPRING QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT

The Spring Qualifying Tournament (SQT) allows first, second, and part-time third year students the opportunity to try out for membership on the Mock Trial Honor Society. Advocates will be given a short case file, from which they will prepare a five-minute closing argument, and should they advance to the second day, a four-minute direct examination.

We are offering two information sessions on February 19, 2020 in C116 at 12:00 pm and 10:00 pm. We will walk you through the expectations and format of SQT, as well as run mini-workshops on how to write a direct examination. Both sessions will have identical content, so pick the best time for your schedule to stop by. If you are unavailable to attend either session, you may request a recording of the session by email mthsrecruitment@gmail.com.

The 2020 Spring Qualifying Tournament will be held February 29 and March 1, 2020. The deadline to register is February 27, 2020 at 11:59 pm.

2020 FALL QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT

The Fall Qualifying Tournament (FQT) is your opportunity to join one of the nation's best trial advocacy competition teams. Participation in a qualifying tournament is the only way to join the Society. FQT is not open to first year students.

Competitors will be sent a case packet after they register for the Tournament. Each competitor will be assigned a side (either Prosecution/Plaintiff or Defense) and asked to prepare a five-minute closing argument, and if they are called back for the second round, a four-minute direct examination.

Information regarding the 2020 Fall Qualifying Tournament will be released in August 2020.
