Washington, DC
October 12-14, 2010

The Center on International Commercial Arbitration has developed an intensive annual seminar designed to provide insights for handling arbitration cases and training legal practitioners to manage cases effectively in an international context. The seminar was conceptualized in collaboration with our co-sponsoring institutions, the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC); the American Arbitration Association; and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

Seminar Overview

This three-day intensive seminar based on a mock arbitration case will provide critical skills and practical insight into handling competition issues in an international commercial arbitration primarily from the perspective of the ICC Rules of Arbitration . Through dynamic interactive lectures and scenario-based exercises, participants will have the opportunity to work in small groups in constant debate with international experts and will be taught skills, strategies, and tactics for successfully conducting competition issues in an international Arbitration.

The faculty, composed of leading practitioners in the field, will draw upon their experience as arbitrators and litigators to give detailed practical guidance on the various stages of the arbitration.

The seminar will discuss:

  • the preparation and filing of an arbitration request;
  • the answer to a request for arbitration;
  • the organization of arbitral proceedings;
  • the production of evidence;
