Ms. Wakefield is a 1979 graduate of the Washington College of Law. As a law student she participated in the Clinical Program and was active in the Women's Law Association.
She has held legal/public policy positions with the National Criminal Justice Association, the Environmental Law Institute, and other nonprofit organizations. Currently, she directs the American Bar Association Section that focuses on civil rights, civil liberties and constitutional law, and international human rights concerns.
Ms. Wakefield has chaired the commission on Women, Equal Employment Opportunity, and Human Rights in Arlington County, Virginia and served on the alumni association of her undergraduate institution. She has been a member of the Myers Society at WCL since 1995, has served as an International Human Rights Moot Court Competition Judge, and acted as presenter for WCL-sponsored seminars on international human and civil rights.
