Peter L. Scher
Mr. Scher holds both his graduate and undergraduate degrees from American University. He obtained his Bachelors degree from the School of Public Affairs in 1983 and his JD from the Washington College of Law in 1987.
He is currently the Managing Partner of the Mayer Brown's Washington, DC office, where his practice is focused on representation of global companies on a worldwide basis, assisting clients in addressing regulatory, policy and other governmental issues and expanding their business activities in foreign markets. Prior to assuming the role of Managing Partner he led the firms' Government and Global Trade Practice, overseeing the practice in Washington, DC, the European Union and China. Before joining Mayer Brown, Mr. Scher spent nearly a decade in senior governmental positions. He was nominated by President Clinton, and confirmed by the US Senate to serve as the US Special Trade Negotiator with the rank of Ambassador, in the Office of the United States World Trade Organization.
Mr. Scher has been active in national Democratic political campaigns, including acting as Senator John Edwards' National Campaign Manager for the Vice Presidency in 2004. ChambersUSA legal guide selected him as one of the "Leading Lawyers" for 2005, 2006, and 2007.
