Ms. Kelly is a 1988 graduate of the law school. As a student she was active in the law clinic.
She is a partner at Dickstein Shapiro where she serves as the firm's Deputy General Counsel and is a member of its executive committee. Her practice focuses on civil litigation with an emphasis on all aspects of employment law. As head of the firms' Employment Practice she directed the development of Dickstein Shapiro's innovative PolicyPartner web-based service. Before becoming an attorney, Ms. Kelly spent almost a decade in academia, working at the Brookings Institution and as a professor of political science at American University and the University of Maryland. She also taught Civil Procedure II at the Washington College of Law during the spring 1992 and 1993 semesters.Recently, Ms. Kelly was selected by the full U.S. District Court bench to serve a three-year term on the Grievance Committee for the DC federal court system. She has been a member of the Council for Court Excellence since 1999, serving on both its Executive Committee and Board of Directors. She is also a member of the ABA's Employment Section. She has served on the Board of Reviewers for the 2003-2007 editions of Equal Employment Update, published by the ABA Section of the Labor and Employment Law. She has been profiled for her professional excellence by publications such as The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, Washington Business Journal and Profiles in Diversity Journal. In 2006 she was included among the elite Lawdragon 3000 Leading Lawyers in America list. She also serves on the Dean's Advisory Council for her undergraduate alma mater, the University of Vermont College of Arts and Sciences. Along with her law degree she also holds an M.A. and a Ph.D in Political Science from the Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Kelly has been a frequent commentator on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, NPR and Fox News.
