Advocacy Program Celebrates 2020-2021 Accomplishments

2020-2021 was not a year like any other. Despite all  the challenges we faced, students brought their A-game to competitions. We celebrate their achievements below.  

American Association for Justice Student Trial Advocacy Competition Regional Champions

Dakotah Gray, Cassandre Gaspard, Taryn Boyer, and Caroline Trabucco won the American Association for Justice Student Trial Advocacy Competition's Eastern 4 regional. The team was coached by WCL alums Gabrielle LoGaglio and Greg Evans.

Sienna Heard, Bailey Roe, Andrew Treske, and Shannon Quinn, won the VIS Case & White Pre-Moot. The team was coached by Eleanor Erney and Ashley Nickel.

Stetson International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition

Mackenzie Battle, Alexis Bauman, and Ruslan Klafehn were finalists as part of the Environmental and Energy Law (PEEL) team.

National Trial Competition

McKenzie Ehrhardt and Brittney Webb were Region III regional finalists. The team was coached by Aimee Ghosh and Cristina Hillyer.

INADR International Law School Mediation Competition
Neli Traykova, and Rachel Mina received the award for the second-best advocate-client team.

ABA Moot Court

Eric Sell and Mike Carbonara were ABA Moot Court regional finalists, and won 5th best brief. Prof. Caroline Wick and Prof. Joe Pileri coached the team. 

 

Nelson Mandela International Negotiations Competition

Brianna Green and Simeon Wright won second place in the Nelson Mandela International Negotiations Competition. The team was coached by Jacqueline Young.

National Criminal Mock Trial Competition In Vino Veritas
Samantha DiNardo, Allyson Ainsworth, Olivia Hines, Nicole Cortina were semi-finalists in Golden Gate University's National Criminal Mock Trial Competition. The team was coached by Allison Widder and Prava Palacharla.

Eric Ettore, Chris Jannace, Elena Ritchie, and Tim Schmeling were semi-finalists in the William & Mary International Negotiation Competition. The team was coached by Jamie Rosenberg and Betsy Craig.

Zhuo Zhao and Demitri Dawson were Region III Semi-Finalists. Aimee Ghosh and Cristina Hillyer coached the team.

National Health Law Regulatory and Compliance Competition
Miranda Ross, Elizabeth Raterman, and Cale Coppage won third place in the National Health Law Regulatory and Compliance Competition. Coached Asha Scielzo and alumni guest coaches Sonali Gunawardhana, Lindsay Holmes, and Sarah Beth Kuyers.

 

Pacific McGeorge's National Ethics Trial Competition

Nicole Cortina, Samantha DiNardo, Shoba Kadavil, and Kate Van Allen, were national semi-finalists in Pacific McGeorge's National Ethics Trial Competition. 
Kate Van Allen was named as one of the best advocates. Kris Vicencio and Helen Galloway coached the team.

Puerto Rico Trial Competition

Nicole Cortina, Nicolle Sayers, Eryka Jones, and Alexandra Bustamante were semi-finalists. Alexandra Bustamante was nominated for Best Opening Statement. Nicolle Sayers was nominated for Best Direct Exam and was honored for having made perfect scores in one round. The team was coached by Mike Kitzman and Natalie Selzer.

Nneka Azikiwe, Ryan Durazo, Nora Elmubarak, Miles Moore, Jared Green, and Alex Johnson placed 3rd in the overall mediator category. The team was coached by Hernando Otero.

Clara Barton International Humanitarian Law Competition (CBC)
Megan Cox and Courtney Veneri were semi-finalists, and both received runner-up designations for Best Advocate. Coached by Susana SaCouto and Lindsey Miller.

South Texas Challenge National Trial Competition
Olivia Hines, Allison Ainsworth, Ariana Bagherian,  Michael Fente were quarter-finalists. Ariana Bagherian was named outstanding advocate. Coached by Aimee Ghosh and Cristina Hillyer.

Keanu Bader, Casey Crandell, and Jackson Garrity won best brief. Coached by Anna Butenko.

Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Competition
The team composed of Margarita Gorospe, Ebonee Johnson, Anna Isernia, and Gabrielle Feulner, ranked #9 in the world. They were coached by Maria Paz Lestido and Nick Laneville.

Alex Inman, Sydney Helsel, Cassady Cohick, Lena Raxter, Karen Kim ranked top 7% of the 600 international schools participating. They were coached by Prof. Catherine Newcombe.

Pacific McGeorge's National Ethics Trial Competition
Brittany Webb, Zhuo Zhao, Matthew Renetzky, and Demitri Dawson were named Most Professional Team. Coached by Prof. Joe Lester.
