SJD Program

The Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) is the most advanced law degree at American University Washington College of Law. The program brings together aspiring legal academics and other top legal professionals from around the world who wish to research and write a dissertation of publishable quality under the instruction of faculty members who are recognized experts and leading practitioners in their fields.


Antonio Morelli

SJD Candidate


Antonio Morelli, an SJD candidate at American University Washington College of Law, is working on his dissertation titled, “The Legal Status of International Financial Institutions Under Evolving Standards in Public International Law and Global Governance: Developing and Applying Environmental and Social Policies in Development Finance.”

Mr. Morelli is a fluent Italian, English, Spanish and French speaker. This has allowed him to build a solid background in different countries, mastering both civil law and common law systems. In the private sector, he worked as a legal practitioner at the law firm Llamas Abogados in Salamanca and Madrid. In the public sector, he collaborated with the Mexican Foreign Service in Milan and Washington, D.C. Mr. Morelli furthered his commitment to academia by working as a researcher at American University Washington College of Law and collaborating with the University of Buenos Aires and the Superior Tribunal of Santiago del Estero (Argentina).

During his career, Mr. Morelli has extensively engaged in communication activities such as publishing in law reviews and serving as a lecturer. He is constantly inspired by the challenge of communicating across cultures.
