Antonio Morelli

SJD Program Graduate

Antonio Morelli received his SJD degree from American University Washington College of Law, specializing in public international law in 2019. His dissertation on “High-Profile Withdrawal from International Treaties: Risk Management in International Negotiations and States’ Commitment to Multilateralism” maps the phenomenon of treaty denunciation, in order to understand its reasons and consequences, whilst enhancing commitment to multilateralism.

During his career, Dr. Morelli has built a solid background in different countries, mastering both civil law and common law systems. He furthered his commitment to academia by working as a researcher at American University Washington College of Law, and then at the European University Institute in Florence. Moreover, in the international public sector, he collaborated with the International Law Commission of the United Nations, and, at the governmental level, with the Mexican Foreign Service, in Milan and Washington, D.C.

Dr. Morelli has extensively engaged in communication activities, constantly inspired by the challenge of communicating across cultures. He has been a frequent contributor to journal articles, book chapters, and as an expert panelist for speaking engagements in international law and governance. The relevance of his research and its impact on the empirical framework has allowed him to achieve notoriety for his publications, ranking on the top 10% most downloaded authors on SSRN in 2018/2019, and receiving mention in the Argentinian newspapers.
