Exam Schedule

The law school has a schedule of approximately 10 days at the end of the fall and spring semester and a 5 day exam schedule at the end of the summer semester. More information regarding exam schedule and deferrals can be found below. Please send all exam-related questions to examsWCL@wcl.american.edu

Please note that if you have approved additional time or other accommodation, your exam schedule may be different from what is posted in the chart below. If you have any questions, please reach out to WCL Disability Support disability@wcl.american.edu or email nnes@wcl.american.edu with inquiries about additional time for qualified non-native English speakers.

This below information is for the FALL and SPRING semester. For information about summer semester, please email examsWCL@wcl.american.edu

  • The schedule may be updated based on faculty decision.

  • During the first 1-2 weeks of the term, professors usually confirm the modality of the exam (scheduled in person, scheduled remote / online, or take-home) during the first few class. Consult your course syllabus, talk with your professor, and feel free to email us (examsWCL@wcl.american.edu) if you notice any discrepancies.

  • During the first 5-6 weeks of the term, other components of the schedule may change, too. In addition to consulting your professor about exam modality, please verify with your professor (if applicable) the date, duration, and time of your exam. We strongly encourage students to wait five or six weeks before purchasing travel tickets or making similar plans. In addition, please do not plan to begin a vacation or between-terms internship until at least one week after the last scheduled exam shown on the schedule below. This buffer week is when you may need to schedule planned or emergency exam deferrals (see below).

  • After the first 5-6 weeks of the term, we anticipate only minor changes to the schedule.

  • Unless designated by a special note, the schedule below only lists scheduled in-person exams and scheduled remote / online exams. These are exams that begin at a specific date and time and end 2-4 hours later (before factoring in accommodations that may apply).

  • Instead of exams, final assessments for some WCL courses take the form of papers, projects, simulations, or something else. These assessments do not appear on the schedule below.

  • Within the category of exams, some exams have a “take home” modality that permits students to self-schedule their exam at any point during the multi-week exam window. Take home exams are not listed on the schedule below.

  • Changes to an individual student’s exam schedule are called exam deferrals.

  • You can read more about WCL’s Deferred Exam Policy here which lists faculty approved reasons for requesting an exam deferral.

  • FALL & SPRING Semesters Only: If you wish to apply for an exam deferral, please note that we program the application form to become active about six weeks into the term. Early in the term, if you realize that you may need an exam deferral, create a reminder for yourself so that you can apply when the form becomes active.

  • An Anonymous Grading Number (AGN) is a form of identification we at WCL use for exams and grading to maintain student anonymity during the grading process.

  • Students receive new Exam Numbers for each term (fall, spring, summer).

  • In a given term, students have the same Exam Number for all courses.
