  • Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Hosts 22nd Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition

    The 22nd Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition will commence this Sunday, May 21 at the Tenley Campus. The trilingual competition (English, Spanish and Portuguese) will bring together 96 teams from 25 different countries to argue a hypothetical case of alleged human rights violations. This year's case was written by Eric Tardif, a legal adviser to the International Committee of the Red Cross's regional delegation to Mexico, Central America and Cuba, and focuses on "Emerging Challenges in the Relationship between International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law."

    On Sunday, May 21, 2017, American University Washington College of Law welcomed Bryan Stevenson, founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, as its 2017 Commencement speaker. Stevenson addressed a packed crowd at Bender Arena gathered to celebrate the Spring 2017 class, which included 346 students graduating with a Juris Doctor (JD), 47 with a Master of Laws (LL.M.), and 2 with a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD).
