Workshops&Conferences: Hamdan v. Rumsfeld: Implications of Military Commissions

Description: On June 29th, 2006, the Supreme Court issued a pivotal decision overturning the use of military tribunals at Guantánamo Bay. This conference will analyze the implications of this decision, discussing its various dimensions, including its impact on international law, separation of powers, habeas corpus, and how the decision specifically impacts practitioners and detainees at Guantánamo Bay. In addition, the conference will focus on how the Hamdan decision informs the current pending proposals on military commissions and due process for detainees at Guantánamo. This event is sponsored by the American University Washington College of Law Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. Speakers include Prof. Robert Goldman, Prof. Richard Wilson, Prof. Herman Schwartz, Eugene Fidell, and Prof. Dan Marcus.
