The Law School is located in the historic centre of the city of Ghent, Belgium.  While occupying a number of historic buildings from the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, it has modern teaching facilities including well-equipped computer facilities and excellent libraries on domestic, foreign, European and international law.

The University’s Law School presently offers professional degrees in law, criminology, and notarial practice as well as postgraduate programs in European law, the Economic analysis of law, business law, environmental law, port and maritime sciences, and criminology. 

PROGRAM DATES

Program offered fall semester only, from early October through early February.  It is possible to make arrangements for exchange students to take exams before the end of the semester in order to return to Washington in time for the beginning of spring semester. LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

The official language of study is Dutch. However, exchange students can take English-language courses offered by three postgraduate programs, the Master programs on the Economic analysis of law, European criminology and criminal justice systems, and the program on Law in Europe in a comparative perspective.

COURSES

Students will receive up to 12 credits towards their law degree. Only the credits and not the grades will transfer per ABA requirements. The acceptance of any credit or grade for any courses taken at the University of Ghent including externships and other clinical offerings is subject to determination by the WCL, Office of the Registrar. WCL students will be enrolled in regularly scheduled courses conducted in English alongside fellow Ghent and exchange program students.The following is a selection of courses offered in English.  A more complete list is available on the University of Ghent website.
