Program Overview
The Legal Spanish Program at the Washington College of Law introduces lawyers and law students with an intermediate to high level of Spanish speaking skills to legal Spanish concepts. Through lectures, written assignments, in-class exercises, and contract negotiations, participants whose native language is not Spanish will practice a wide array of legal Spanish skills ranging from legal reading and writing strategies to oral presentation of substantive legal issues in contract law. Small class size and student-teacher meetings ensure individual attention.
Listening and Speaking Skills
With the aim of preparing participants for real world situations such as client meetings, conference calls, and negotiations, the Legal Spanish Program incorporates exercises that focus on listening and speaking skills. Participants will give presentations and will negotiate contract provisions.
Legal Writing Skills
Writing exercises will focus on clear and accurate expression, effective legal style, and organization. Participants will draft business letters and contract provisions.
CLE Accreditation (8.5 hours) will be applied for upon request.
The granting of accreditation will depend on individual state criteria.
Certificate of Attendance
Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon successful completion of the Legal Spanish Program.
