“David & Goliath”
Negotiating Free Trade Agreements with the United States

March 8

6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

In the Western Hemisphere, as in the rest of the world, the importance of bilateral trade agreements has stepped into the spotlight as the multi-lateral approach of the Doha Round of trade talks remains seemingly stalled. Given the strength and size of the US economy and the close geographic proximity, it is natural for the US to seek free trade agreements with other countries of the Americas and vice versa. Officials from throughout the hemisphere will impart insight from direct experience negotiating in a trade environment, which at least from the outside, appears to involve an uneven economic playing field. The panelists' discussion will provide a greater understanding of the interests, positions, and strategies of the parties involved.
