Women’s Rights and Access to Justice in the Americas

March 9

5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights established its Rapporteurship on the Rights of Women in 1994 to ensure that women’s rights are fully respected in member states. In recent years, the Rapporteurship has documented discrimination and violence against women through its Access to Justice Project. A reception will be followed by a dinner with a special guest from the Rapporteurship, who will discuss the office's work in promoting women’s rights in the Americas. In particular the keynote will explore how impunity has fostered violations of women’s human rights in the Americas, and will
describe the Access to Justice Project’s efforts to hold states accountable to their obligations to combat impunity.
