Future of International Chemical Regulation

February 22

2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

This program will consist of two panels. The first panel will discuss the current status of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). Environment Ministers are expected to adopt SAICM, an international approach to chemicals management in early February at the International Conference on Chemicals Management in Dubai. Government, industry and NGO individuals will discuss different aspects of SAICM. The second panel will discuss developments in international chemicals management that have, or may, fundamentally change the way chemicals are regulated and managed internationally. For example, the EU parliamentary approved bill on REACH will be discussed along with present, and future, multilateral environmental agreements (such as the Basel Convention on Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants).
