Description

This is a legal Spanish class for JD students with an intermediate to proficient level of Spanish. This seminar will be taught entirely in Spanish and it will cover the basic concepts of the continental legal system as practiced in Latin America. The objective is for the students who are interested in an international legal career to be able to communicate with Spanish speaking lawyers with the appropriate terminology. At the end of the seminar, students should be able to read a contract, a decision or piece of legislation from a Latin American country and have a legal understanding of it. Reading materials will be posted each week in MyWCL. The class will be taught by Ms. Cathy Kettlewell, Mexican attorney and currently a counsel at the International Settlement of Investment Disputes ICSID. If you are not sure if your level of Spanish will allow you to take the class, please contact the instructor at ckettlewell@worldbank.org.
