Description

This seminar focuses on the historical and contemporary interplay between race and property law in the United States as exemplified through case law and legal theory. The topics covered will include Native American land claims, slavery, alien land laws, racial zoning and racially restrictive covenants, de jure and de facto segregation, the Fair Housing Act and 42 U.S.C. ยงยง 1981 and 1982, affordable housing, and racial impacts of the use of eminent domain and sub-prime mortgage lending.
