Description

The objective of the “International Business Transactions in Latin America” Seminar is to give students an overview of practical legal issues involved in doing business in Latin America. The seminar will focus on, among other topics, contracts, corporate forms and finance, trusts and secured transactions tools, labor issues, privatization, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions. The seminar will also compare foreign investment laws in different Latin American jurisdictions, and examine relevant consumer protection and product liability legislation. Finally, the course will examine dispute resolution methods existing in Latin American jurisdictions, the enforcement of arbitration agreements, arbitral awards, and foreign judgments, and the practical consequences of the U.S. forum non conveniens doctrine for the region.
