Description

This research seminar is on the problems of the poor in America. The classes feature lectures by policy experts and service providers on hunger, homelessness, unemployment, health care, tax policy affecting the poor, inner city education and other problems facing immigrant communities. Students will be assigned internships for approximately 10 hours per week with appropriate policy and service organizations and at the end of the term will do a short paper describing the internship and what they got out of it. Grading is on a Pass-fail basis and enrollment is limited.
