Description

Advanced Issues in Immigration Law will focus on the more complex and challenging issues in U.S. immigration law, including litigation of immigration cases in federal court and before the immigration courts, immigration consequences of criminal activity, advanced asylum issues, jurisdiction-stripping and judicial deference to agency decision-making, review of naturalization denials, prosecutorial discretion, and challenging consular decisions in U.S. courts. The course will involve in-depth analysis of significant recent decisions from the Board of Immigration Appeals, federal circuit courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. The course will require brief writing and oral advocacy on selected topics.
