Description

Note: Meets 06/07-06/11 -- The first part of this course consists of a presentation of the international legal framework and institutional aspects of intellectual property protection and a detailed analysis of the most important instruments, namely the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Berne Convention for the protection of Literary and Artistic Property and the emergence of intellectual property as a subset of trade rules in the WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS). The second part will aim to critically discuss the adequacy of the current regime vis-à-vis the demands of indigenous peoples and developing countries.
