Description

The course is designed for serious students of petroleum and energy law. With one-half of the nation's oil and natural gas being developed on federal lands and the Outer Continental Shelf under vastly different laws and regulations applicable to private lands, it is appropriate to cover the void left by basic oil and gas law courses.

Coverage includes environmental regulations applicable to oil & gas, federal and state regulation of oil and gas production, pricing and conservation. Topics encompass federal and state and administrative procedures, oil and gas futures and derivatives regulation by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the regulation of natural gas by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, oil and gas lease interests regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and oil and gas taxation.

The seminar is fortunate to have the Associate General Counsel of the CFTC and the Chief Administrative Judge of the Department of the Interior Board of Land Appeals, who will discuss their agency's mission, procedures and applicable law and answer questions.

Oil and Gas Law or International Petroleum transactions are a prerequisite unless waived by the professor.
