Description

"Jewish Law" is a corpus of traditional Jewish sources which constitute a legal system which is, on the one hand, one of the world most ancient legal systems, and on the other hand a legal system which is, at least in part, still a living legal system.

The course will be divided to three parts, as follows:

The course will begin with a general introduction, including an analysis of the political structure and rulemaking in Jewish law, and its sources.

It will then move to examine several specific topics such as:

  • Due process in Jewish law
  • Concepts of Family law
  • Concepts of property in Jewish law

The third part of the course shall analyze the relationship between Jewish law and other legal systems – the law of the land, the Israeli constitution, and family courts.
