NOTICE: This seminar is ONLY for students who have already taken a three credit seminar. This class meets 8 times over the course of the semester. This class generally meets 3 weeks in a row and then every other week thereafter. This is a one credit pass/fail class. Students cannot externs at the same placement twice without the approval of the Externship Office. REGISTRATION: There are two parts to registering for an externship: 1) Register on-line for the seminar as you would for any class. 2) Register for the field placement by going to the Externship Page www.wcl.american.edu/externship and submit a Request for Approval, which generates the necessary forms.
Description
This Advanced Externship Seminar is a one credit pass/fail class for students who have already taken a three credit seminar. In this seminar, we will explore the meaning of being a lawyer and a member of the legal profession within the context of your externship placement. This seminar will also explore how to leverage your externship experience to enhance your career and professional development. Accordingly, the course will incorporate career planning, cover letter and resume strategies and review, interview preparation, and networking tools and strategies. The seminar will be discussion-based and will include at least one guest speaker from the judiciary or a practicing attorney from the public or private sector.
