Meets 5/27-7/24 6-7:00PM. IMPORTANT: This is a one credit pass/fail class for students who are taking an externship seminar for the first time. REGISTRATION: There are two parts to registering for an externship: 1) Register on-line for the seminar as you would for any class. 2) Register for the field placement by going to the Externship Page www.wcl.american.edu/externship and submit a Request for Approval, which generates the necessary forms.

Description

This course is a one-credit pass/fail seminar taken in conjunction with a field placement in a non-profit organization, government agency, court or private law firm handling pro bono matters exclusively. This course is one-credit pass/fail seminar taken in conjunction with a field placement in a non-profit organization, government agency, court or private law firm handling pro bono matters exclusively. This course integrates experiential learning gained in the field with self-reflection through weekly journals as well as open discussion and interaction with peers in an small group setting. Class discussion ranges from students' specific challenges and acheivements in their placements to broader issues relevant to a career in law such as career planning, networking, work/life balance, and expectations of young attorneys in the "real world."
