Description

This class explores current health policy issues, including Presidential candidates’ health care platforms, and provides an overview of health care reform proposals (past and present), coverage and reimbursement issues, the legislative and regulatory processes governing the U.S. health care system, the new Medicare Modernization Act and prescription drug benefit, employer-sponsored health care, the problem of the uninsured, the medical malpractice insurance crisis, federal ERISA law and state regulation of insurance, HIPAA and patient privacy protections, advances in biotechnology, end-of-life, genetics, and other recent developments in health care policy.
