Description

This course covers all essential aspects of patent law: prosecution, patentable subject matter, utility, disclosure, novelty, statutory bars, nonobviousness, infringement, remedies, inequitable conduct, inventorship and assignment. Students will examine legal doctrine as well as the patent system's public policy objectives and theoretical foundations. While the focus of this course is United States patent law, we will also address international issues as they arise. This course is designed for both the non-patent specialist as well as the future patent attorney. No scientific background is required.

The required text for this course is Craig Allen Nard, THE LAW OF PATENTS (Aspen Casebook Series 2011). Additional readings will be posted on MyWCL.
