Description
The central goal of this hands-on course is to prepare students to represent an asylum seeker in the United States. The course is divided into two parts. First, we will explore the contours of the refugee definition by looking at black letter law arising from statute, regulations, and relevant case law. In the second half of the semester, working with a simulated client, we will study the different phases of asylum adjudication so as to understand both how claims are processed and how advocacy must shift at each level of review.
