Description

Overview: This course addresses the rules applicable in private law where at least one of the operative facts in the case is connected with some state or country other than the one in which the suit is brought. The areas examined include: torts, contracts, property, commercial law, administration of estates, and family law. The course also considers the recognition and enforcement of judgments of sister states and foreign countries. Generally, we will look at some fascinating intellectual puzzles that state and federal courts confront on a daily basis.

Casebook: Currie, Kay, Kramer & Roosevelt, Conflict of Laws: Cases, Comments, Questions (West, 8th ed. 2010) (will be available in the campus bookstore, but you should feel free to purchase it elsewhere: ISBN: 978-0-314-19581-4).
Supplement: Robbins, Conflict of Laws - 2012 Supplement (will be available at WCL in Room 465 the week before classes begin).
