Description
Welcome to Constitutional Law. This course examines issues related to the system of constitutional governance in the United States. We will cover three core areas: (1) structure of government and separation of powers; (2) substantive due process; and (3) equal protection. The focus of the course is both historical and doctrinal. We will examine the evolution of constitutional doctrine over time. Due to the enormity and complexity of the subject matter, it is impossible to cover every area of constitutional law in one semester. WCL offers upper-level courses that focus on additional areas of study that students are encouraged to take (e.g. First Amendment, Administrative Law, Federal Courts, and Criminal Procedure). Nonetheless, the course provides a survey of general constitutional doctrine, and will provide students with the analytical skills to think critically and examine general questions of constitutional law in a sophisticated manner.
