ALN provides referrals to attorneys and will occasionally directly handle matters in the following areas: domestic relations, labor/employment disputes, public entitlements, bankruptcy or insolvency resulting from medical debt or job loss, wills and probate, guardianship and landlord/tenant relations.

Halt, Inc., An Organization of Americans for Legal Reform

Founded in 1978, HALT – An Organization of Americans for Legal Reform, a nonprofit, nonpartisan public interest group of more than 50,000 members, is the nation's largest and oldest legal reform organization. Dedicated to the principle that all Americans should be able to handle their legal affairs simply, affordably and equitably, HALT's Reform Projects challenge the legal establishment to improve access and reduce costs in our civil justice system at both the state and federal levels.

Legal Counsel for the Elderly

AARP Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) is the primary provider of free legal services and advocacy for low-income seniors in the District of Columbia. Since 1975, LCE has sought to improve laws and policies affecting basic needs of DC’s elder residents in areas of shelter, income, health care, protective services and access to legal representation. Last year, LCE served over 6,000 DC residents age 60 and older in its programs including the DC Law Office, DC Office on Aging Long-term Care Ombudsman Program, Volunteer Lawyers Project, Real Property Tax Project, Senior Medicare Patrol Project, Self-Help Office Project, Legal Hotline, and the Alternatives to Landlord/Tenant Court for the Elderly Project.
