2008 Annual IMBY Public Service Day

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Join together with WCL students, faculty and staff as we go into our "back yard" and serve the DC community.
What is "IMBY"? Simply put, IMBY is the opposite of NIMBY... it's a celebration of everything good in our community and a chance for us to be a part of positive work being done at various organizations all over the District. For 1Ls, IMBY is a fun way to kick off orientation week, get out and see the city and meet new classmates in a relaxed environment. For 2Ls, 3Ls, faculty and staff, IMBY is a chance to reconnect with the community before the fall semester begins and to welcome incoming 1Ls in the spirit of public service.

- Calvary Women's Shelter
- Mary House
- Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League

- Women's Collective
Breakfast, lunch, water, water bottles and a free t-shirt provided.

Information for IMBY Participants:
Time. We ask that you please arrive at WCL no later than 8:00 AM on Tuesday, August 19. With registration, a brief orientation, and a few other logistics before we head off to the sites, it will make the day much smoother for everyone if you are on time. We anticipate that the official IMBY activities will end by 5:00 PM at WCL.
Transport. For those taking public transportation, you can find DC public transport info (metro and bus) at www.wmata.com, and WCL shuttle transport information at www.american.edu/finance/ts/shuttle.html. For those driving, you can park in the WCL parking garage on Massachusetts Ave. Parking will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Please email imby2008@gmail.com to let us know if you will be driving, and what time you will be arriving to campus.
Attire. Please dress comfortably! Most sites will have some physical or outdoor activity, and while it will not be strenuous, please wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Also - you will be given a new IMBY 2008 t-shirt in the morning to show your WCL pride as you work.
Food/Drink. Bagels, juice and coffee will be provided when you check in at WCL, and box lunches and water will be provided at each site (a water bottle will be provided to you on IMBY day).
We will also be running a supplies/book drive for DC Books to Prisons. Please bring a roll of packing tape, a packing tape dispenser, a pair of scissors, a clean paper grocery bag, or a book! Please only donate paperback books or magazines, and not hardcover books.

- English or English-Spanish dictionaries
- Atlases and almanacs
- Spanish self-teaching books
- How-to (gardening, plumbing, woodworking, small motor repair)
- Science and nature
- Personal finance or starting a business
- Math or GED preparation
- Computers and electronics
- Law
- Drawing
- Native Americans
- African-American/Latino/Roman/Greek history
- Fiction (sci-fi, thrillers, horror, African-American authors, westerns)
