2009 Annual IMBY Public Service Day

Tuesday, August 18, 2009
8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s IMBY event a success!

What is "IMBY"? Simply put, IMBY is the opposite of NIMBY... it's a celebration of everything good in our community and a chance for us to be a part of positive work being done at various organizations all over the District. For 1Ls, IMBY is a fun way to kick off orientation week, get out and see the city and meet new classmates in a relaxed environment. For 2Ls, 3Ls, faculty and staff, IMBY is a chance to reconnect with the community before the fall semester begins and to welcome incoming 1Ls in the spirit of public service.

On August 18, 2009 over 150 incoming students along with upperclass students, faculty and staff participated in the 7th Annual In My Back Yard (IMBY) Public Service Day. WCL volunteers fanned out across the city to assist area nonprofits with a multitude of service projects. This year’s sites included:

The IMBY coordinators recommend that students contact any of these great organizations directly to learn about ways they may continue to be involved in area community service projects throughout the year.

As in previous years, the IMBY Public Service Day was planned entirely by the rising 2L Public Interest/Public Service (PIPS) Scholars. A big thank you to these student leaders, the host sites, and to all of the faculty and staff who joined us this year.

Information about the 2010 IMBY Public Service Day will be posted during the Spring 2010 semester.
