During the period covered in this annual report, the Commission held its 77th, 78th, and 79th sessions, at which a number of petitions were received concerning alleged violations of human rights upheld in the American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Commission opened 232 individual cases between May 1, 1990, and January 31, 199l. This brings the total number of individual cases being processed at the present time to 828.

The Commission is presenting the following cases to the General Assembly for consideration. These cases satisfy the requirements that the Commission's Statute and Regulations stipulate for their publication.

Accordingly, the reports transcribed below, which concern both the admissibility of the cases and the rulings on the merits of the case, appear in the year on which they were approved by the Commission, following the alphabetic order of the country to which they refer.
