American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation - Sidney B. Williams Jr. Scholarship
Sponsored by the American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation, the Sidney B. Williams Jr. Scholarship addresses the need to increase the number of minority intellectual property attorneys and to bring these attorneys to the attention of firms and corporations as candidates for employment. The $10,000 Law Scholarships will be awarded to minority students developing a career in intellectual property law. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund is assisting the Foundation by administering the application and selection process.
American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation - Jan Jacin Competition
Sponsored by the American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation, the Jan Jacin Competition includes two separate awards offered to law students nominated by their schools who have excelled in the study of intellectual property law. The first award is the Jan Jacin Award, which includes a cash award of $5000. The second award has been established by the Past Presidents of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and awards up to a maximum of a $2500 cash reward.
International Trademark Association - Ladas Memorial Award 2009
The Ladas Memorial Award, supported by the law firm of Ladas & Parry LLP and the INTA Foundation, was established in memory of the outstanding contributions to international intellectual property law made by the distinguished practitioner and author Stephen P. Ladas. The purpose of the Ladas Memorial Award is to provide an incentive to further develop interest in the field of trademarks and to enhance the general understanding of this discipline. The Competition is open to all U.S. and international students, practitioners and academics interested in trademarks and trademark law. Carries a $2000 cash award. Papers to be submitted to INTA by January 16, 2009.
Two $10,000 scholarships will be awarded to outstanding law students who have completed an internship in a corporate intellectual property law department and intend to pursue a career in intellectual property law. The mission of the scholarship program is to assist law students pursuing intellectual property law careers with their educational expenses and to encourage law students to seek internships with corporate intellectual property law departments. Deadline October 10, 2008.
The IPIL Sponsored Scholarship Grants (SSG) Program at the University of Houston Law Center is designed to facilitate newly-authored scholarship on Intellectual Property & Information Law (IPIL) by Federal Appellate Court clerks. As one of the nation's leading programs for the study of intellectual property and information law, the IPIL Institute at the University of Houston Law Center is pleased to provide this initiative to support the creation and dissemination of quality scholarship in its field. The IPIL SSG program provides grants for IPIL related scholarship from scholars serving or soon serving the Federal Appellate Courts as judicial clerks under a two-year or less appointment. Carries an award of $3000. Applications collected through December 15, 2008. Selections made mid-March 2009.
Patent Resources Group - Future Leaders Scholarship
Patent Resources Group's Future Leaders Scholarship is designed to catapult law school students with an interest in patent law into their patent-related career by giving them the tools they need to become registered to practice before the USPTO. Patent Resources Group will award full tuition to Patent Bar Review course, Travel and hotel costs, as well as reimbursement for the fee charged by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to become a patent agent. The Scholarship is valued at more than $5000. Application starts in Fall 2009.
Perkins Coie, L.L.P. - Patent Fellowship Program
Perkins Coie, LLP, offers a Patent Fellowship Program for second-year law students who have a technical background and an interest in a patent procurement practice. The program provides a $10000 academic scholarship in addition to a paid summer associate position during the summer immediately following the completion of the student's second year of law school.
Fish & Richardson, P.C. - 1L Diversity Fellowship Program
Launched in 2005, Fish & Richardson's 1L Diversity Fellowship Program provides fellowships to five diverse first-year law students throughout the country annually. Each selected student receives a $5000 academic scholarship, mentoring by members of the firm, and a paid summer associate position in the Fish & Richardson office of the student's choice.
Patent and Trademark Office Society - Rossman Award
Established in 1972 by the Patent and Trademark Office Society and the friends of Dr. Joseph Rossman, the Rossman Award is given annually to the author of the article in the Journal of the Patent and Trademark Society that, in the opinion of the judges, makes the greatest contribution to the field of patents, trademarks, or copyrights. All of the articles published in the Journal between July of one year and June of the next year will be considered. The winner receives a plaque and a check for $1500 in a special meeting of the Patent and Trademark Office Society.
Edward F. Langs Awards will be given to up to three student essays, which in the opinion of the judges make the most significant contribution to the knowledge and understanding of the Information Technology law. A total of $1500 shall be divided among the award winning essays. Essay must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document, postmarked by June 30, 2009, and emailed to DSYROWIK@brookskushman.com.
