InternetNZ to host PublicACTA Conference in April 2010
On April 10, 2010, Internet New Zealand (InternetNZ) will host PublicACTA, a conference open to the public for people to express their concerns and critiques about the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). This conference comes at an appropriate time as the 8th round of the controversial negotiations will occur on April 12-16th in Wellington, New Zealand.
Jordan Carter, InternetNZ Policy Director, summed up the goal of PublicACTA as the following:
"The aim of PublicACTA is to raise the public's concerns, seek improvements to the Agreement, and provide an opportunity for people to connect and discuss the issues. The output will be an agreed statement that the public and interested organisations can sign up to, to be delivered to New Zealand Government negotiators and politicians."
In addition to comments from the public, the New Zealand Government also requests feedback on specific areas of ACTA through submissions, which will be accepted until March 31, 2010.
