East African Community Nations Reject Counterfeiting Law

A Wall Street Journal publication is reporting that several East African Countries are refusing to adopt a model law “counterfeiting” law adopted by the East African Community. The law was incredibly controversial for promoting a model adopted by Kenya which extends border seizures and other counterfeiting remedies to suspected unauthorized copies of generic drugs. A similar extension of trademark counterfeiting remedies to alleged patent violations is being pushed by the European Union in the secretive ACTA negotiations.
