Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Scholarly Research in Communication
June 25, 2010
PIJIP, American University’s Center for Social Media, and the International Communication Association (ICA) have prepared a Code of Best Practices for Scholarly Research in Communication, which was released at the ICA conference in Singapore June 22, 2010. AU Professors Jaszi and Aufederheide worked with communications scholars to identify four situations that represent the current consensus within the community about acceptable practices for fair use of copyrighted materials. PIJIP and the Center for Social Media have worked with other groups of stakeholders in the past to generate codes of best practice in fair use for documentary filmmakers, teachers using multimedia in the classroom, online video producers, and others.
