Requirements & Procedures for Admission
Admission is by application and all students in good standing entering their second or third years of J.D. studies (or the equivalent in the part-time program) may apply. Students who wish to participate in the Nanterre program during the same semester in which they are required to take particular courses at WCL may have those requirements deferred until after their return.
In case of over-subscription, third-year students will receive preference. More generally, applications are evaluated to assess each applicant's likelihood of success in the program, and admissions decisions are made accordingly. The ability to function at a relatively high level in French is an absolute necessity for students wishing to participate. The French language proficiency of applicants may be measured in a number of ways, including the Computer Assisted Proficiency Assessment (CAPE) test administered by the Foreign Language Laboratory at American University and -- where appropriate -- additional testing of comprehension and conversation skills.
